State-Maintained Roads

North Carolina has over 78,000 miles of state-maintained roads, the second-largest state-maintained highway system in the U.S. This extensive network includes all non-municipal roads, as the state does not have county-maintained roads. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is responsible for maintaining this vast system, ensuring connectivity across urban, suburban, and rural areas.
