Technology Availability for the 2016 Convention
Dear CSCA members,
As you prepare for the upcoming convention in Grand Rapids, I wanted to send you a reminder about our convention technology policy. You can read the full details on the CSCA website or in the call for papers:
- CSCA is happy to provide a projector in each room that will connect to a PC with a standard connecting port. Macs can also be connected to the projectors, but you will need to make sure to bring a dongle.
- This year we are also able to provide audio speakers in rooms for the following interest groups and caucuses (in addition to the above-mentioned projectors): Media Studies, Popular Culture, Instructional Resources, Women’s Caucus, and SOGI Caucus. Any room that has a panel from that division on that day will have audio equipment.
- We are unable to provide any other presentation equipment beyond projectors and audio for a specific room. Due to the costs associated with providing such technology, CSCA cannot make any exceptions to this policy.
- Based on the agreement we have with this year’s conference hotel, you may bring any technology you would like to use – but please take care to not interfere with the technology already set up in the room or to inconvenience others who are presenting with you on the panel or later in the same room.
- Those presenting in poster sessions will also be provided with easels to use to display their posters.
- Based on feedback from the hotel, we are suggesting that presenters not expect that an internet connection will be available in presentation rooms.
- Although all projectors and speakers are tested in advance of the convention, please keep in mind that things do happen. Our technology specialist, Heather McLaughlin, is fantastic at her job and has a great team who will try to keep technology going for the convention. But as is taught in most public speaking courses, we know that sometimes technology fails. In case that happens, please try to have a backup plan.
If you do run into problems with technology at the convention, please send a representative to the registration desk and we will have someone look into it. Last year technology worked quite well, and we suspect that it will this year as well!
