Far Niente wines are some of the best known and widely respected in America – not to mention having one of the most eye-catching labels! The “Napa Valley” cabernets combine 40 – 50% Oakville grapes with fruit from select vineyards in Calistoga, St. Helena, Stags Leap and Diamond Mountain. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate says that the 2019 offers a “charming blend of cherries and cassis, with hints of sage, mint and dried spices.” The 2019 is medium to full-bodied, and is drinkable now or can be cellared for another five years.
From 1309 – 1376, there were actually two Popes due to a schism in the Catholic church – one in Rome and one in Avignon, France. Avignon also happens to be in the Rhone wine region of France. One thing led to another, and a red wine was created to honor the new Popes aptly named Chateauneuf di Pape, or “New Home of the Popes.” Domaine Du Vieux Telegraphe has been run by the Brunier Family for six generations and consistently produces one of the highest rated Chateauneufs. The 2017, a medium to full-bodied wine has an average rating of 95 points. It could be drunk now, but best to give it a couple of more years. Can be cellared for another 15 years.
$40 per cork and each cork will have a number on it to a corresponding bottle. Numbers will be announced toward the end of the evening with these two bottles being the BIG PRIZE.
