ECA’s invites submissions for short courses to be included in its 2017 annual convention program. The convention will take place at the Omni Parker House from March 29 – April 2, 2016. As a convention theme, Freedom To… Freedom From…, provides an opportunity for communication studies scholars and practitioners to address the theme from a variety of perspectives, theories, and applications. Short Course submissions are encouraged to consider the following question posed Benjamin Bates, ECA Vice President: Our presence in Boston invites us to consider how the tensions in <freedom> are also present in our discipline. What does communication give us the <freedom> to do? What does it give us <freedom> from? What are the uses and abuses of free communication? When have others used their freedom to communicate to prevent freedom from other forces? And, when have we used the freedom to communicate to gain freedom from these forces? Short courses should be formatted as a workshop that encourages participate interaction. Presenters are required to supply all material for the course.
