ECA 2023 Communication Administration Interest Group Updates (Amended Copy)

Dear Communication Administration Interest Group Members,

The 2023 ECA Convention is nearly upon us, with friends and colleagues converging on Baltimore in less than a month.  The Inner Harbor venue is familiar to many, the delicious seafood is plentiful, and the prospect of intellectual exchange is gratifying.  ECA First Vice President, Jennifer Waldeck, in conjunction with her cadre of intrepid planners, has labored long to compile a compelling convention program under the theme of “Harboring Innovation.”  If you haven’t yet finalized your hotel reservations or convention registration, please do so very soon.

I write to remind you of the events sponsored by our Communication Administration Interest Group.  We have two excellent panels planned for Baltimore, each with a plethora of talent.  Sadly, they are scheduled against each other.  Of this you may be sure:  you can’t go wrong attending either one.

They are:

Additionally, a special event is this year’s “Administrators’ and Academic Leaders’ Lunch & Learn” function, which will be held on Thursday, 3/30, from 11:30-1:30 in Constellation C.  For the nominal fee of $15, participants may enjoy interacting with some seasoned administrators and engage in pre-arranged table talk sessions over lunch.

It is also vital that you add the Communication Administration Interest Group Business Meeting to your convention schedule.  Attendance at our recent business meetings hasn’t been as robust as it needs to be, frankly.  So please plan to attend and to bring a buddy.  Our business meeting is slated for Friday, 3/31, from 2:30-3:45 in the Executive Board RoomRefreshments will be served.  I’m not kidding!

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank our interest group representative to the ECA Executive Council, Sally Vogel-Bauer (Univ. of Southern Indiana) for her continuing service to our unit. Additionally, I appreciate the efforts of our three 2022-2023 panel reviewers for their thoughtful, careful work.  They are:  Kristen C. Eichhorn (SUNY-Oswego), Rebecca Townsend (University of Hartford), and Jason S. Wrench (SUNY-New Paltz).

For my part, it continues to be a pleasure to serve as your interest group chair and planner for 2022-2023.  I look forward to seeing you at one of our sponsored sessions and to sharing refreshments with you at our business meeting.

Cordially,

MLK
