The NECA - IIT Student Chapter updates concerning the Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge sponsored by NECA and ELECTRI International; the ECA Student Committee would like to thank Jesse Geiger, CAD / BIM Manager, Block Electric Company, Inc. for his special presentation held during the fifth Student Chapter session on Thursday, February 8, 2024 regarding Building Information Modeling (BIM), as this year’s ECIC primarily concerns BIM use, among other areas concerning a project.
He discussed various aspects of BIM utilization throughout the duration of a project, including the following topic areas: “What is BIM?” and the BIM Design Process, including the Design Phase, Construction Phase, as well as the overall benefits of BIM on a project. In regard to BIM use, he also offered real world examples including: Clash detection: Design issue; Quantity takeoff: Quantity and lengths; Layout: export points, layout drawing; and Prefab use.
