ECA Student Committee Update / Recent Warehouse Total Robotic Station Tour
Continuing with the NECA - IIT Student Chapter updates concerning the Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge (ECIC) sponsored by NECA and ELECTRI International, the ECA Student Committee would like to thank Mike Meyer, ECA Student Committee Chair, Director of Construction Operations, Continental Electrical Construction Company for his assistance with a company warehouse visit on Friday, April 5, 2024 to offer the student’s a unique perspective of BIM utilization realized on a project – specially, use of a robotic total station, as this year’s ECIC primarily concerns BIM use, among other areas concerning a project.
(From ECIC rubrics) -- Robotic Total Stations are a key tool in the construction industry. It is a type of surveying instrument that uses robotics to automate the positioning and aiming of the telescope. This allows for faster and more accurate measurements than with manual operations. When it comes to electrical constructions these robotic total stations are used for things like mapping out where light poles and transformers are located on the project site. They can also be used to map out locations or supports and light fixtures and much more. Discuss with your NECA partner how and why they use this piece of equipment.
We, again, thank Mr. Meyer, as he assisted with the Robotic Total Station event, and Continental Electrical Construction Company for coordination of this unique activity.
