IHCNO President's Message

Susan HinckIn May each year, we celebrate International Nurses Day on May 12 because it is Florence Nightingale’s birthday. IHCNO celebrates all nurses and your contributions to your profession, country, and communities. Who are the nursing leaders in your country, both past and present? Who are the nurses who have made a difference by advocating for home-based nursing care programs, policies, and practice? I would like to hear your stories and share them in this newsletter so that we all can learn from them. Please contact me at info@IHCNO.org to share the history of home-based nursing in your country.

In honor of International Nurses Day, IHCNO asks you for financial support to carry out our mission and vision. An article in this newsletter lists projects with opportunities to honor and serve nurses. Donors are also recognized in the giving tree to thank them for their financial support. Please go to the Support IHCNO page to make your donation - thank you!

Your contribution can provide funds for the IHCNO 2026 Marilyn D. Harris Research Grant. This is the 7th year for the grant, and the award has increased to $5,000 USD. Visit the IHCNO website Research tab to view prior grant recipients and their projects. The 2026 application will be available on the IHCNO website soon. The submission deadline is September 30.

I also want to call attention to a way we can lift colleagues and share resources by helping them become IHCNO members. In some countries, the average RN salary is equal to about $900 USD per month. IHCNO is developing a membership subsidy program to make membership more affordable for nurses in low- and middle-income countries. We will share more information about this program in coming weeks.

May is also when we celebrate Mother’s Day. My best wishes to you as you honor your mother, or as your children celebrate you.

I hope to see you at the Presidents Forum May 13. I will provide an update of IHCNO activities and opportunities, listen to what is important to you, and answer your questions. A Zoom invitation will be sent by email before the meeting.
