IHCNO is truly an international organization composed of members from 18 countries that include all six geographic regions identified by the World Health Organization. Our Board of Directors represents six countries to ensure international perspectives on our committees’ activities and projects. Because IHCNO is recognized as the only international organization of home healthcare nurses, we receive requests from individuals and home care agencies for guidelines and recommendations for professional nurse and aide training, continuing education formats to help nurses transition from acute care to home care practice, and content for undergraduate curriculum.
One such request is described by Kathy Duckett in this newsletter. The Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), originally developed in the 1990s, lists interventions most frequently done as a nurse. The names and descriptions of interventions for the home health specialty nurse will be updated for a 9th edition of the list. An overview of NIC can be found at https://nursing.uiowa.edu/cncce/nursing-interventions-classification-overview. Read Kathy’s article in this newsletter to see how you might take part in the project.
In additional IHCNO news, Matthew Sevier was elected to the Board of Directors and will serve as Assistant to the Treasurer on the Finance Committee. Matt was featured in the September issue of the IHCNO newsletter. Thank you, Matt, for helping with this volunteer role.
Because technology is advancing so rapidly, IHCNO has combined the two offices of Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary into the one office of Secretary. Thank you Olga Jarrín Montaner for serving in this office.
During the final Board of Directors’ meeting each year, the Directors elect officers whose 2-year term has been completed. Those officers elected will begin their term at the beginning of the year. Offices are the President (Susan Hinck), Vice President (Crystal Oldman), Treasurer (Marilyn Harris), and Secretary (Olga Jarrín). On November 20, the office of President will be open for election. The minimum qualification to be eligible for President is at least one year as a current or former member of the IHCNO Board of Directors. Nominations for the office are accepted by the Nominating Committee Chair, Marilyn Harris at info@IHCNO.org until the deadline of the November 20.
