Dear friends and colleagues,
Time is flying, and before we know it, we’ll be gathering in Copenhagen for the Twenty-Fifth Biennial Conference of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (ISHR) at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), July 22–25, 2025. At the moment, more than 250 attendees have registered.
Please note that the deadline for registration is July 7, after which registration on the ISHR website will close.
Please CLICK HERE to register.
If, for any unforeseen reason, you are unable to register by July 7, please contact Kathie Cesa. Please be aware that registering after July 7 means you will not be able to attend the reception at the Glyptoteket Museum.
We are preparing a conference app, which will include the final program and directions for navigating the South Campus of UCPH, home to the Faculties of Humanities, Law, and Theology (further information will also be provided here). More practical information will follow as we approach the opening date.
Historic Walks on Saturday:
Many of you have signed up for the historic walks on Saturday. These will take place at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM (14:00 and 16:00), each lasting approximately 1.5 hours. The tour will showcase highlights — and some sinister backstories — of Copenhagen’s historic center. The guide is historian Christian Donatzky, known from Danish and American television.
Please also note that there will be an additional morning walk at 10:00 AM, focusing on the Royal City of Copenhagen from 1600 to 1800. This tour is open to all tourists and will start at the equestrian statue at Højbro Plads. If you would prefer this morning tour over the ISHR-designated ones, please contact Kathie.
Suggestion for summer reading:
If you are interested in the history of UCHP, founded in 1479, the official history book is freely available here. It’s from 2009, written by law professor D. Tamm and historian E. Slottved and has beautiful illustrations.
Looking forward to welcoming you all,
Best, Hanne
ISHR President
