HHS Secretary Becerra again renewed the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) to July 15, 2022. By law, a PHE can be extended as many times as deemed necessary by the HHS Secretary. It can be allowed to expire at the end of the 90-day period or terminated early if deemed appropriate. In a letter to the state Governors, the Administration indicated they will give at least a 60-day notice before the PHE ends. Note that expiration of the PHE does not automatically end all related Medicaid waivers/flexibilities, as outlined here.
All Waiver requests for all types of waivers should be submitted through the 1135 Waiver portal.
