Hospice Choice Effective October 17

On October 17, the majority of policies contained in HB 166, Ohio’s biennial budget bill, will take effect. Among these is a new resident right added to the list of nursing home resident rights. The new language states:

“The right, if the resident has requested the care and services of a hospice care program to choose a hospice care program licensed under Chapter 3712. of the Revised Code.”

LeadingAge Ohio has advised nursing facility members to update their resident rights materials, as well as policies related to hospice choice and contracting. Hospices should reach out to their nursing facility partners to ensure they are aware of the new resident right.
