CDC updating quarantine and isolation for patients and residents

LeadingAge Ohio received confirmation from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) that the new general population guidance for quarantine and isolation does not apply for nursing home residents. ODH and LeadingAge were also informed that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is working on updating quarantine and isolation guidance to align with the updated Interim Guidance for Managing Healthcare Personnel with SARS-CoV-2 Infection or Exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and Strategies to Mitigate Healthcare Personnel Staffing Shortages guidance released on December 23. Until CDC updates guidance for congregate care residents, the current guidance should be used to determine duration of isolation and quarantine for patients and residents. As a reminder, this recommendation can be found on the Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations to Prevent SARS-CoV-2 Spread in Nursing Homes webpage.
