As our population ages, caring for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease looms in front of us. Most of us have personal or professional experiences with dementia. Our views differ. We don’t experience dementia, or dementia care, in the same way. The perspective of the nurse will differ from the social worker, and both will differ from that of the family care partners. We must all listen attentively to hear the softer, often nonverbal, voice of the person with dementia.
As we hear different perspectives and stories and piece together the reality of dementia care, we can work collaboratively to ascend the dementia care summit.
