DOJ Launches Whistleblower Rewards Program Targeting Health Care Fraud

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program (WHIP) on Oct. 20, offering rewards of $10,000 to $30,000 for qualifying tips that lead to criminal charges. Unlike traditional whistleblower programs, WHIP allows payments earlier in the prosecution process rather than requiring a final resolution. Awards are discretionary, with priority given to information involving hospice, home health care, day care and special services fraud.

The initiative is part of an expanded federal effort to identify and prosecute fraud involving government-funded programs. Providers can review the DOJ's eligibility requirements and program guidance and follow LeadingAge's ongoing coverage of federal fraud initiatives affecting aging services.
