Palliative Care Bill Introduced
Last week, Representative Sarah LaTourette introduced HB 286 which would establish a Palliative Care and Quality of Life Interdisciplinary Council, as well as a Palliative Care Consumer and Professional Information and Education Program, which would focus on increasing access to palliative care services in the state of Ohio.
LeadingAge Ohio has engaged with Senator LaTourette prior to the introduction of the bill, which stems from a personal experience she had with palliative care for a relative.
The Senator also addressed LeadingAge Ohio membership at its June 6 Leadership and Policy Summit, saying “Aging issues must be dealt with in a measured, thoughtful manner, and the discussion that took place is integral as we work collectively toward the well-being of older Ohioans,” said LaTourette.
LeadingAge Ohio will remain actively engaged as this bill moves through the committee process, to ensure it aligns with sound palliative care practices. To review the bill, click here.
