CMS Released Letter Outlining Increased Determination Frequency Compliance for Medicaid Expansion, from HR1
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), on March 6, released a State Medicaid Director’s Letter (SMDL) covering states’ necessary compliance actions to increase the minimum frequency of Medicaid eligibility redeterminations for the Medicaid Expansion population. Previously states were required to verify ongoing eligibility for the program no less frequently than annually. To meet new statutory requirements in HR 1, states must, as of January 1 2027, conduct those redeterminations every 6 months. The SMDL outlines states’ obligations in tracking eligibility and timelines for compliance.
