PEPPER Returns for Nursing Homes

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has resumed the Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report (PEPPER) for skilled nursing facilities. CMS announced the report’s return in its Sept. 17 Medicare Learning Network newsletter, part of the agency’s broader restart of PEPPER reports for providers throughout 2026.

PEPPER gives skilled nursing providers access to billing data that can help identify claims that may warrant closer review, monitor payment patterns and track trends such as patient length of stay. Providers can access their reports through the PEPPER Portal. Additional information, including the User Guide and details about an upcoming webinar, is available through PEPPER Training & Resources.
