Dedicated Doctors Establish Action Plan for 2019-2020
Eighth MAC Strategic Planning Session a Massive Success!
In late February, MAC leaders, committee members, and interested chiropractors from around the state convened in Lansing for a monumental event – the MAC’s eighth Strategic Planning Session! This tremendous combination of talent, dedication, and experience was joined by our legal, legislative, and public relations consultants and MAC staff to set the goals of the MAC during the two-year presidency of Dr. Eric DiMartino, which ends December 31, 2020.
The session was moderated by Dr. Jay Greenstein, a leading voice in the chiropractic profession and expert on Six Sigma, human capital management, and the Entrepreneurial Operating System. His review of practice building from a broad business perspective and view of what leaders can do to further chiropractic AND unify for real change was a winning combination that was extremely well received by MAC leadership.
“Never in my wildest dreams when I woke this morning did I think I would be presented with such great information,” said MAC District 6 Board of Directors member Dr. M. Douglas Lynes. “[Dr. Greenstein] was spot on to help us all become better leaders in our profession. Thank you for your dedication and helping us by giving us the tools we need to make this profession better for the next generation. I am looking forward to a great new year.”
After reviewing the goals established at the seventh Strategic Planning Session, held in 2017, the doctors broke into groups in the following categories:
- Government Relations/PAC/Legal Affairs/Insurance Relations/State & National Projects (MichiCare, AmeriProtect, Medicare Inclusion, Veterans)
- Public Relations/Programs/Districts/Membership/State & National Projects (Kids Initiatives, Conservative Care First, CA Advancement Program, Member Assistance Program)
These groups then determined their top goals and assigned tasks to ensure their achievement.
Government Relations Committee Top Goals:
- Reintroduce and pass SB 282 to amend the Michigan Worker’s Disability Compensation Act
- Reintroduce and pass SB 283 to amend the Michigan Insurance Code
- Amend the Michigan Business Corporations Act, Professional Corporations Section to allow for multidisciplinary practices
- Pursue all administrative and legislative changes necessary to allow chiropractors to perform high school sports physicals and DOT physicals
- Promote conservative care first models in all public and private insurance plans
- Continue to advocate with PT’s to allow chiropractic referrals
- Develop strategies to increase PAC funds
Legal Affairs Committee Top Goals
- Undertake all administrative and legal remedies to eliminate discriminatory per diems with Priority Health/United/HAP
- Research MSO structure; work with MichiCare Board
- Assist with multi-disciplinary practice legislative/administrative efforts
- Continue to address reimbursement issues with BCBSM/BCN
- Stay involved with national legal action for full inclusion of chiropractic in Medicare
- Strengthen state and national anti-discrimination language in all policies
- Utilize Basecamp to foster increased communication and involvement
Insurance Relations Committee Top Goals
- Develop seminars/promotional materials on the efficient/effective use of research and treatment protocols
- Enhance the MAC research library
Public Relations Committee Top Goals
- Continue to promote chiropractic to the public, elected officials, and the business community
- Continue to promote the MAC to the profession to raise association awareness
- Promote the State of Michigan/MAC to chiropractic students
- Continue billboard project, Veterans Task Force, anti-opioid projects, expand children’s museums
Membership, Recruitment & Benefits Committee Goals
- Increase membership 5%, develop membership drives
- Increase number of CAAP members and enhance benefits
- Implement all components of Member Advocacy Program (MAP)
Education & Programs Committee Goals
- Further develop CAAP seminars and on-line services and benefits
- Expand the webinar library
- Develop clear SOP’s for frequency of speaker/presenter appearances
