Youth Civic and Community Engagement Course

In January 2024, the City of Ann Arbor's staff began and led a course with high school students that was designed to educate and empower young minds about their personal values, local governance, planning, and civic participation. Before diving into city operations, students spent a month evaluating their personal values and priorities, and goal-setting and decision-making processes. A highlight of the class were tours of key sites, such as an affordable housing project site and the water treatment plant. Jurors said: "Love how this course encouraged students to be active in government." MAP congratulates the City of Ann Arbor.
