Host a Summer 2026 Local Health Intern

Massachusetts local and regional health departments, tribal partners, and state public health partners are invited to submit a project proposal to host one or more public health student interns for Summer 2026.

Application Timeline

• Application opens: January 5, 2026

• Application closes: February 6, 2026

• Host notification: February 13, 2026

The anticipated internship period will run from May 27 through August 12, 2026.

Please note that this application is not a binding agreement that an intern will complete the specific project proposed. Rather, it is intended to serve as a thoughtful project outline. Final intern assignments and project scopes will be determined based on local, tribal, and state needs, as well as the student's interests.

Internship Compensation
MDPH will compensate students for 160 hours of practicum work:

• Undergraduate students: $20/hour (160 hours)

• Graduate/Doctorate students: $25/hour (160 hours)

Some students may require more than 160 hours to meet their academic requirements. If you are willing to host an intern for additional hours (either unpaid or locally funded), please indicate this in the application when prompted.

Additional Notes

• A Google account is required to submit the required project proposal file (if you are having trouble, please email me)

• Please take time to familiarize yourself with Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) requirements for F-1 students, as some applicants may need approval through their school’s international office.

• Resources including Project Proposal Template, 2025 Project Examples and Preceptor Expectations are available for review.
