LPH Amendment Action Alert!

As a member of the Coalition for Local Public Health, MHOA is partnering with the Massachusetts Public Health Alliance to mobilize the workforce in support of state funding for local public health in the FY27 state budget.

Unfortunately, the House Ways & Means Committee proposed the line-item for local boards of health at $12 million and not at the $15 million we know is needed to level fund the Public Health Excellence program. Though we are pleased that House Ways & Means funded the line at a level higher than they ever have before – and it indicates our collective advocacy is working – we remain steadfast in our goal to restore full funding for local public health.

Right now, advocates from all over the state are contacting their Representatives urging them to cosponsor amendment 27 filed by Rep. Kane, which would bring the line back up to the much needed $15 million. Join us TODAY to make sure the House hears from the workforce about the value of public health to make sure our priorities are reflected in their decision-making!

Taking action is as easy as 1-2-3:

NOTE: The deadline for making phone calls and emails is Friday, April 17th.

Finally, we want to be sensitive to the fact that many of you work for local government and may face restrictions with regard to lobbying. If you are interested in participating but feel hesitant for this reason, forward this message to your personal email account and reach out to your Representative on personal time using your personal phone or laptop. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kate Forrest (kforrest@mapublichealth.org) for assistance. Thank you for your partnership and advocacy!
