How to Talk about Fall Vaccines

September 15th | Hosted by Your Local Epidemiologist

The Covid-19, flu, and RSV vaccines will be available at no cost to those who want them. But how can we meet the people who want them, or those who are not outright opposed to getting them, where they are at?

This YLE webinar will welcome Dr. David Higgins and Dr. Ben Rosenberg to discuss what they've learned about motivational interviewing and encouraging the "passive positives" who might need a bit of help to get vaccines this season. A "passive positive" is someone not opposed to vaccination, possibly due or at elevated risk, who has a practical question or a logistical snag in the way.

Dr. David Higgins is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he practices pediatrics and researches vaccine delivery, communication, and immunization policy. His research and commentary have appeared in leading journals and national outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. He publishes the Community Immunity newsletter and serves as President of the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Benjamin D. Rosenberg is an Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Psychology Department at Dominican University of California. His research on motivation, persuasion, and responses to autonomy threats has been widely published in leading journals and featured in outlets such as The Guardian, NPR, Scientific American, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, Your Local Epidemiologist. Please register below. We hope to see you there!
