Investigating Fraud

SPEAKER: Steve Ryner, Manager Corporate and Financial Investigations, BCBSM

Steve is a retired sergeant from the Waterford Township Police Department. He spent 6 years as a detective investigating cases ranging from simple larceny to murder. He began working at Blue Cross in April of 2011, as a fraud investigator assigned to the government programs team. He was promoted to manager in September of 2013. He currently manages a team of 4 investigators and 2 investigative analysts and their focus is on fraud within our Medicare Advantage line of business.

Steve will discuss the following:

  • CFI - Who we are and what we do
  • Defining fraud, waste, and abuse
  • State and federal laws frequently used for prosecution
  • Case studies regarding health care fraud
