Some Patients to See Higher Bills for Telehealth

ASH Policy Highlights

A provision of the CARES Act relief package, passed in Spring of 2020, allowed certain high-deductible health plans to cover telehealth services before patients met their deductible. This provision expired December 31, 2021, meaning that more than 30 million Americans will see higher bills for telehealth visits that previously were fully covered. As the pandemic continues to disrupt daily life, the concern is that individuals may choose not to seek care if unable to affordably access telehealth. Legislation has been introduced in both the House and Senate to address this issue and ASH will monitor potential changes to this policy.
