Two weeks ago, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) announced a $44 million funding initiative for the “No Kidney Left Behind project,” led by 34Lives. This five-year effort aims to recover 50% of donor kidneys with viability concerns to increase transplant availability. By utilizing advanced biomarker assessments, AI prediction tools, and warm perfusion technology, the project seeks to enhance kidney viability and ultimately save lives, addressing the over 8,000 kidneys each year that go unused. ARPA-H noted that successful outcomes could also benefit other transplantable organs. View the full press release for more details. AOPO released a statement applauding the new ARPA-H project and its focus on solutions to organ nonuse.
