| Description | WECT is looking for a passionate meteorologist to join our experienced, market-leading First Alert Weather Team. You'll help us forecast and track weather in the Cape Fear region, which can range from gorgeous and sunny to severe in every season. Each day, you'll contribute to our broadcast and digital platforms, including our livestreams, social media, WECT Weather App, and WECT.com. To excel in our team is to consistently produce and deliver dynamic, compelling, and understandable forecasts and explainers, support our "First Alert" philosophy, and cover severe weather in an urgent, yet reassuring way. Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Build and deliver accurate, easy-to-understand, and engaging weather forecasts on-air and on our streaming and digital platforms. • Create original weather content for all platforms supporting our "First Alert" philosophy. • Exhibit a desire to win, show initiative, and have the ability to reflect on your work and apply feedback. Embrace coaching. • Proactively plan for short and long-range weather. Collaborate with the News Director and other news managers on coverage plans, including any needed resources, staffing & schedule changes. • Be flexible to work long hours/overtime, weekends, and overnights as needed for First Alert Weather Days, breaking and severe weather, and other specialized coverage. • Show a positive attitude and be involved with the newsroom and community. Participate in station and community events.
