Do you thrive on the energy of a breaking news weekend? Are you a storyteller who knows "the news" doesn't just happen at 6 and 11, but lives and breathes on every screen your audience carries? WECT is looking for a Weekend Anchor/Reporter who is ready to lead our weekend coverage and help dominate the digital landscape. This isn't just about sitting behind a desk; it’s about owning the story across our broadcast, social, and WECT Digital Studio livestream platforms in one of the most beautiful coastal markets in the country.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Command the anchor desk: Lead our weekend newscasts with authority, energy, and a conversational style that connects with our viewers in southeastern North Carolina.
- Own the WECT Digital Studio: Be the face of our livestream newscasts and digital-first updates, engaging with our audience in real-time where they live—on their phones and streaming devices.
- Report with impact: Enterprise and deliver high-quality daily packages that go beyond the surface, telling the stories that matter most to our community during the week.
- Digital engagement: Create compelling content for TikTok, Reels, and Facebook that stops the scroll and brings our audience into the heart of the story.
- Respond with urgency: Pivot quickly to breaking news and severe weather, providing calm and authoritative coverage across all platforms when our community needs us most.
- Collaborate and lead: Work closely with a producer and production staff to ensure our weekend coverage is cohesive, multi-platform, and always "Where News Comes First."
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A digital-first mindset: You don't just "post to social"—you understand how to craft stories specifically for streaming and digital outlets.
- On-camera charisma: You have a natural, engaging presence whether you're behind the desk or reporting live from the field.
- Smart news judgment: You know a great story when you see one and have the skills to enterprise it from start to finish.
- Strong writing chops: You write for the ear and the eye, crafting scripts that are punchy, accurate, and human.
- Technical versatility: You’re comfortable with the tools of the trade (including an eye for video, editing, tracking, and operating with the latest technology to go live and quickly send video).
- Empathy and curiosity: You care about people and the stories that shape their lives.
- Resilience: You thrive under deadline pressure and can handle the unpredictability of a live news environment with a smile.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in a newsroom is preferred, but your passion and potential matter most.
