Lobbyist
North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA)
NCSBA is seeking to fill a lobbyist position. The ideal candidate is proactive and creative problem solvers who can multitask and are team players. The position is based in Raleigh, with the option to work from home up to two days a week. Report to the Director of Governmental Relations and the Executive Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Building and maintaining relationships with state legislators and staff, the Governor’s Office, state agency liaisons, and other stakeholders.
- Research, analyze, monitor, and influence legislation and public policy proposals.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of existing state laws.
- Work with local school board members to develop NCSBA’s legislative agenda, talking points, and position papers.
- Assist in writing regular updates to NCSBA’s membership and other education stakeholders.
- Testify during public hearings
- Present at NCSBA conferences and to external stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
- Professional experience in advocacy, government affairs, public relations, or politics
- Familiarity with the North Carolina General Assembly is preferable
- Ability to digest complicated material and clearly summarize the information under tight deadlines
COMPENSATION:
Salary is commensurate with experience. NCSBA has an excellent benefits package, including a generous pension contribution, paid sick and vacation leave, and health, vision, dental, and wellness benefits.

NCSBA is a volunteer membership organization representing all 115 local boards of education in North Carolina and the board of the Cherokee Central Schools. NCSBA provides advocacy, leadership, and services that enable school boards to govern at the highest level as they work to provide a quality education for all students.
