Using a Call Center

We have recently started using an out-of-state call center to assist us with renting units. What information do we need to tell them that they are legally obligated to collect?

We have used the NCSSA storage lease in the past and had been collecting DL numbers and SSNs from customers, but we're having trouble determining if we are legally required to collect this information.

Legally it could all be done verbally, with no lease as long as there is a meeting of the minds. That being said, and when conflict happens, it's best to have as much information as possible.

I assume they are doing move in's over the phone? The DL and SSN are typically used for collections purposes and, should you be unfortunate enough to have an issue, law enforcement actions. Here's my suggestion. Let the call center ask for the information. If the tenant doesn't want to give it, let the call center let them know that is fine but you will have to give it in the office.

This is a best practice. It isn't necessary but they go along way when it comes to running a successful business. Good Luck
