I saw a patient 11/23/16 for glass embedded in his foot. I removed this and he claimed no pain. He returned a 11/28/16 with pain and I referred him for X-rays. billed the encounter of 11/23/16 as 10120.Is there a global period and can I bill the follow-up as 99212?
Since the pain is directly related to the removal of glass from the patient’s foot on November 23rd, this visit would fall under the 10 day global period of CPT 10120. Hence, the X-ray would be billable and payable, and the office visit on November 28th would be considered a non-billable post-op visit inclusive to the payment of the minor surgery.
