Correct Coding for End to End Repair of a Severed Nerve and Wrapping a Nerve with Neurawrap

Code for the end to end repair of a severed nerve (medial plantar nerve). Code for wrapping a nerve with Neurawrap, for the purpose of partially repairing and protecting a damaged nerve.

To bill for the repair of a severed nerve, the code would be

64704 (Neuroplasty; nerve of hand or foot)

 

Lay Description (Code):

In 64702, the physician releases a compressed nerve in a digit of the hand or foot. The physician makes an incision overlying the nerve. Surrounding tissues are dissected from the nerve freeing it from scar tissue or adhesions. The incision is repaired in layers. One or both of the digital nerves in a single finger or toe are decompressed. In 64704, a nerve in the hand or foot is decompressed.

To bill for wrapping a nerve in Neurawrap, bill

C9353 (Microporous collagen implantable slit tube (NeuraWrapTM Nerve Protector), per cm length)

 Lay Description (Code):

A microporous collagen implantable slit tube, trade name NeuraWrap Nerve Protector, is an absorbable collagen implant that provides a nontightening cover for peripheral nerves that are injure. This code specifies a size of per centimeter length.

Please note that you must multiply by number of units per centimeter.
