Modifiers GP, GN and GO

United Healthcare has announced that, starting April 1, it will require modifiers GP, GN, or GO for physical therapy. What do they represent?

Below are the definitions of each modifier:

GN: Speech therapy services provided under an outpatient care plan

GO: Occupational therapy services provided under an outpatient care plan

GP: Physical therapy services provided under an outpatient care plan

Only the GP modifier is applicable to podiatry- all physical therapy modalities performed in the practice will require the modifier in order to be reimbursed by United Healthcare. This may also apply to other minor procedures of they are performed as part of a patients regimen of therapy modalities.
