What is the correct injection code for Tarsel Tunnel Syndrome, diagnosis G57.51? We used the CPT code 64455 and was denied for diagnosis not medically necessary
The injection was denied because CPT 64455 is only billable when treating Morton’s Neuroma. If the diagnosis code being billed with CPT 64455 is not G57.61 (Lesion of plantar nerve, right lower limb), G57.62 (Lesion of plantar nerve, left lower limb) or G57.63 (Lesion of plantar nerve, bilateral lower limbs), it will be denied as not medically necessary. For treating tarsal tunnel syndrome, CPT code 64450 (Injection(s), anesthetic agent(s) and/or steroid; other peripheral nerve or branch) should be billed. This is the most appropriate injection code that can be billed since there is not a more specified code to treat this condition.
