NYC Retirees Switching to Aetna Medicare-Diabetic Shoe Program

With NYC retirees switching to Aetna-Medicare come this fall, what happens with Medicare's Diabetic Shoe Program? Aetna as of now requires their members to only see dedicated DME suppliers and cannot see an out of net provider for Diabetic Shoes. Will this carry over with the NYC retiree plan?

The Aetna Medicare Advantage plan for NYC retirees has extensive out of network benefits. As long as the service is covered by Medicare, it should be covered by the Medicare Advantage plan. Aetna does cover diabetic shoes under the same guidelines as regular Medicare. The current documentation from the plan does not have exclusions or carve outs where members would be required to obtain diabetic shoes from a participating DME supplier.
