we use RN's for local cases only - CRNA's and MD anesthesia for everything else.

We use CRNA's as often as possible. When a CRNA is unavailable an RN may administer moderate sedation.

At all of our Cleveland Clinic ASCs our RNs (under the direction of the physician in the room) administer the moderate sedation meds and are responsible for the patient. The CRNAs are responsible for all other deep sedation - MAC and Generals.

In the past when I worked at a multi-specilaty ASC (part of the Mercy system) RNs were used for pain clinic patients and for GI patients who received conscious sedation. At our center we do only ophthalmology and we do use CRNAs. We have an anesthesiolgist in house in addition when the schedule requires there is an CRNA here. CRNAs work with monitored anesthesia or MAC cases.

Physicians are responsible for running the sedation in our centers. An RN administers the meds and monitors the patient under the MD supervision.

We use CRNA's for all sedation.

RNs administer IV conscious sedation under the direction of the physician. CRNAs always administer for MAC procedures
