On June 1st, United Healthcare’s prior authorization policy for almost all upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy procedures will go into effect.
24 organizations across the country, including ASCA, joined together to send a letter to UnitedHealth Group’s Chief Executive Officer expressing concerns and urging them to rescind this policy. In addition, ASCA sent their own letter stating similar regards. Issues related to unnecessary disease progression and even death have been some of the points cited in this outreach. No response from United Healthcare has been recorded at this time, but OAASC will keep you posted on any new developments addressing this topic.
