CSX Rate Increases Impacting Ohio Grain Industry

Over the last two weeks, Ohio’s grain industry has been abuzz with talk of CSX’s new rates for grain shippers in the Mideast. These new rates will greatly impact grain elevators using CSX lines and could have even broader impacts on country elevator and terminal grain pricing, as well as grain logistics, markets and movements. Illinois, Indiana and Michigan will also see CSX rate increases and impacts when they go into effect Oct. 1.

These new rates will likely have the following considerable impacts on Ohio agriculture:

The Ohio AgriBusiness Association is actively engaged with our member companies and state/national partners on this issue. Last week, OABA sent a letter to the Ohio congressional delegation that shared this alarming information and the fact that this will negatively impact farmers and agribusinesses in the near future if not addressed. We are working with our partners to develop a strategy to engage the Surface Transportation Board. We will keep you informed as things develop.
