HR Manager & Grain Buyer

Introduction:

Walnut Hill Feeds, Inc., of Shelby, Ohio, is seeking a qualified individual for our HR Manager and Grain Buying position. This position is responsible for management of general Human Resources duties and procurement of grain.

About Us:

Walnut Hill Feeds, Inc., is a fast-growing, family-owned feed mill in North-Central Ohio. Founded by Nelson & Twila Horst in 1997 as a local feed dealership, we have continued to grow over the years and now deliver feed across all of Ohio and into Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Michigan. Dairy has always been our strongpoint and we feed quite a few dairy farms across our trade area. More recently, we have focused on growing our bagged feed dealer network and are focused on expanding this part of our business in the future.

Expectations:

This position requires an attitude of integrity, patience, and leadership. The ideal candidate will have a sympathetic attitude, be able to make quick decisions, and have good communication skills. The ideal candidate will also be eager to learn all they can about the industry we serve and will have a sense of ‘ownership’ in the company. A background in agriculture is ideal, as this will greatly lesson the learning curve. Our priority is not to hire the candidate with the most experience in HR, rather, we are looking to higher the right fit for our company. Training for both HR and Grain merchandising will be provided.

The HR portion of this position entails the following duties:

Hiring of new employees
Conducting performance reviews
Management of benefits (health insurance, 401(k), etc.)
Working with employees when issues arise
Management of our Safety Program; our Safety Director will report to you
Management of our trucking divisions legal paperwork

The grain buying portion of this position entails the following duties:

Working with our suppliers to ensure a steady supply of grain
Setting contracts with grain farmers
Management of our grain accounting; our Grain Accountant will report to you
Aiding in ingredient purchasing
Assisting with Accounts Payable
