Friday General Session: David Akers
David Akers serves as a board member of the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD), making history as the first person receiving services from the agency to serve on its board. Originally appointed to fill an unexpired term, Akers was reappointed in November 2024 to serve through December 2028.
A Marion County resident, Akers has received services through MCBDD since 2020. He brings valuable firsthand experience and a unique perspective to his role, helping ensure the voices of people with developmental disabilities are represented in decisions that shape services and supports.
Akers graduated from Ridgedale High School and attended classes at The Ohio State University at Marion before a car accident resulted in a traumatic brain injury. His personal experiences have inspired his commitment to giving back and helping improve the lives of others.
In his free time, Akers enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing board games and video games, reading, walking and spending time with his dog, Nutmeg.
