An Assistant Public Defender is charged with the responsibility of representing the indigent defendant accused of criminal or civil offenses that threaten the potential loss of liberty. A candidate should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of criminal law, the court system, legal procedures and legal terminology. A successful candidate should also demonstrate the ability to think logically; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; possess a dedicated work ethic; and be willing to accept the responsibilities of a demanding criminal practice and caseload. Juris Doctor Degree required. Must be admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and demonstrate either: (1) a minimum of 1-5 years of misdemeanor and felony criminal trial experience as an attorney with additional experience in juvenile law and domestic contempt. The candidate must possess the ability to write, research and orally advocate. Must also possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
