Ohio ACEP Works With Lawmakers to Improve State Trauma Board Bill

Chapter worked with bill sponsors to ensure EM physicians are represented on proposed Board

In June, Reps. Cheryl Grossman (R – Grove City) and Steve Huffman (R – Tipp City), introduced legislation to establish a State Trauma Board in the Ohio Department of Health. House Bill 261 would also require facilities that provide trauma care to be designated by the State Trauma Board as Level I, II, or III trauma centers.

Throughout the process of drafting the bill, Ohio ACEP was active in interested party meetings. The bill’s sponsors have incorporated Ohio ACEP suggestions into the legislation, including additional representation of emergency medicine on the proposed Board.

Now that Ohio ACEP's concerns and comments have been addressed by Reps. Grossman and Huffman, Ohio ACEP has announced its neutral position on HB 261. Since its provisions could impact Ohio emergency physicians, Ohio ACEP will keep our members updated on HB 261’s progress in 2016.
