John Casey, DO, Honored by White House

Champions of Change: Affordable Care Act

Congratulations to John Casey, DO, Chief Resident for Emergency Medicine at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, for being named one of ten Champions of Change by President Obama. At a White House reception, Dr. Casey and his fellow Champions were honored for their commitment to improving access to affordable health care.

During his remarks at the event, Dr. Casey spoke about the perspective he has gained from his work as an osteopathic emergency physician. Dr. Casey explained that, as a DO, he often encounters patients who are concerned about their ability to pay for their care. He speaks with many of these patients--as well as physicians of all specialties--about the ACA so they can understand the changes and potential benefits of the law.

Dr. Casey is active with the Ohio Osteopathic Association and, in 2008, was honored by the American Osteopathic Association as "Most Politically Active Medical Student." He describes himself as being interested in policy and is a former Paul Ambrose and Training in Policy Studies Fellow. In addition to his accolades and policy work, Dr. Casey is also a member of Ohio ACEP.
