October 14-20 is Honoring Wishes Week

Governor Kasich has proclaimed October 14-20 “Honoring Wishes Week” in Ohio. The occasion will be used to spread awareness about the importance of having a living will or advance directive in place before a serious illness strikes.

Completing a living will enables a person to make their health care wishes known ahead of time in the event they are near death or unable to communicate those wishes on their own. These legal agreements are often helpful in relieving loved ones from making difficult decisions when a family member is gravely ill.

During Honoring Wishes Week, health professionals and attorneys will be available to answer questions about living wills and, if desired, to assist individuals in completing an advance directive. The services will be available free of charge throughout communities in Ohio.

Honoring Wishes Week is sponsored and planned by several organizations, including the Midwest Care Alliance, Ohio Hospital Association, Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio State Medical Association. For more information about living wills or to obtain the proper documents to complete one, visit the Midwest Care Alliance’s living wills and advance directives page.
