Aside from practicing medicine, one of Dr. Matt Sanders’s greatest professional interests is in advocacy and health policy. As a graduate of the 2011-2012 class of Ohio ACEP’s Leadership Development Academy, Dr. Sanders puts his advocacy and leadership skills to use serving as Chair of the Ohio ACEP Government Affairs Committee. He also represents the Chapter on the Governor’s Cabinet Opiate Action Team (GCOAT), which was established to address the growing prescription drug misuse and overdose epidemic.
Dr. Sanders received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University, where he was also a member of the “Pride of the Buckeyes”, the Ohio State Marching Band! After his undergraduate studies, Dr. Sanders attended medical school at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his traditional rotating internship at St. Mercy Medical Center in Toledo and then returned to Ohio State for his emergency medicine residency.
Dr. Matt Sanders currently serves as Assistant Medical Director of the emergency department at Memorial Hospital of Union County. When he’s not working, his interests include OSU Alumni Band, music performance and theatre, and he enjoys travel, hiking and scuba.
