May 2014 President's Message

Dr. Lyman Capitol BuildingDear Resident Members of Ohio ACEP,

I am truly delighted to invite you to the August 14 Ohio Emergency Medicine Residents’ Assembly. In response to much-appreciated feedback from residency programs throughout the state, we have made some changes to the Assembly that I know you will find to your liking.

First, the timing of the Assembly has been changed. In previous years, Ohio ACEP had held its Residents’ Assembly in conjunction with the Ohio ACEP Annual Meeting. While this made sense from a logistics standpoint, the timing simply wasn’t right for residents. Listening to your input, we have shifted the Residents’ Assembly to August 14, 2014—a time of year better-suited for residents, especially third-year residents looking for guidance on that next step in their career.

Again based on your feedback, we have revisited the Residents’ Assembly curriculum. Like you, we want the Assembly sessions and workshops to reinforce your clinical education, and offer “Life After Residency” information and opportunities that may not be readily available at your individual programs.

Like previous Assemblies, we will offer a panel session allowing you to hear from representatives of a variety of emergency medicine “business models.” This year, the Practice Options Panel will be moderated by the incomparable Dr. Catherine Marco. Each Residents’ Assembly session is designed to be interactive and high-energy. Dr. Kevin Klauer will challenge us with his High Risk EM Cases, and every residency is invited to enter a team in the EMRA Quiz Show. In addition to prizes, bragging rights are at stake! And, I would be remiss if I didn’t also invite you to compete in the new Ohio ACEP Poster Competition.

In 2014, we will again have multiple sponsors and exhibitors. I strongly believe that exhibitors play a vital role in the Residents’ Assembly, both to support the program financially and to give you the opportunity to speak one-on-one with potential employers.

Again, I am happy to invite you to this year’s Ohio Emergency Medicine Residents’ Assembly. I look forward to seeing you there. The event promises to be an outstanding opportunity to learn, network and experience Ohio ACEP, all in a fun, casual atmosphere. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone at the Ohio ACEP office.

Yours,

John
