Meet our 2024 Keynote Speaker!
We’re pleased to bring attendees an amazing keynote session featuring Blake Haxton, U.S. Paralympic athlete currently competing in the Paris 2024 Parlympics. Blake will deliver an inspiring message to kick off this year’s conference highlighting the adversities he’s faced recovering from Necrotizing Fasciitis, more commonly called the flesh-eating disease, that derailed his plans as a high school Division One collegiate rowing recruit, after suffering major organ failure and the amputation of both of his legs. Blake went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 2013 and earned his law degree in 2016. He also continued to compete at the highest level making four consecutive U.S. Rowing Teams, competing in the Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Paralympics, and is representing the U.S. at the Paralympics in Paris currently underway. Blake’s accomplishments, awards and honors are extensive on the world stage, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to OAMES event to share his story.
OAMES Give-Back Tradition!
OAMES started the tradition of community giving in 2019 by adopting an Ohio-based organization each year to feature and support at the association’s annual event. This year we’re recognizing Adaptive Sports Ohio headquartered in Wooster, Ohio, with satellite offices in Warrensville Heights and Austintown. Adaptive Sports Ohio’s mission is “to remove barriers to ensure that individuals with physical disabilities have a chance to play and utilize sport to elevate ability and empower futures”. Check out their full story here. Past recipients of OAMES’ annual give-back program include the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, 4 Paws for Ability, Flying Horse Farms and Sunshine Communities. Lisa Followay, President/CEO, will join us during the conference to showcase their work and share how you can get involved with Adaptive Sports Ohio.
