Continue Advocacy for Carbon Fiber/Titanium Wheelchair Upgrade Bills
Ask Your Legislators to Support S.5154 and HR 5371
We urge OAMES members and non-members who provide power wheelchairs to continue efforts to help gain support for two bills in Congress that aim to improve access to titanium and carbon fiber wheelchairs for Medicare beneficiaries. HR 5371 has been introduced in the US House of Representatives and S.5154 is in the US Senate.
Important details, resources and assistance:
- Contact Congressional offices – Reach out to Ohio's US Representatives and US Senators urging that they co-sponsor the respective bills: HR 5371 in the House and S.5154 in Senate. Click here for current contact information for Senate and House healthcare staff on Capitol Hill.
- Advocacy resources– AAHomecare has messaging tools and guidance for reaching out to Capitol Hill on these bills at AAHomecare CRT Advocacy. NCART has additional information available here.
- Online messaging– While direct contact with Senators’ and Representative’s healthcare staff makes the strongest impression, you can also send a pre-drafted message supporting these bills using AAH Voter Voice advocacy tool. Please edit the online letter to include your perspectives on how increasing access to titanium and carbon fiber wheelchairs will improve the lives of the patients you serve.
If you have any questions or need assistance with your contacts or messaging, feel free to contact Heidi Moss at OAMES, Gordon Barnes at the American Association for Homecare or Wayne Grau at NCART.
