I was honored, along with fellow Ohioans Shirley Earley, Tom Barracato,Tom Hicks, and Bob Alexander to be Opticians Association of America delegates, representing Ohio opticians as we took part in an historic vote to create a new national association for opticians. The vote which approved the merger of the OAA, the NFOS, and the ABO/NCLE had been in the works for more than two years, and will combine the resources of many organizations, into one, unified, association. OAA President, Ron Herbert stated, "With this merger, we have created a model for the future of opticianry that focuses on promoting the profession of spectacle and contact lens opticians, while also adopting the use of structured educational standards keeping vision care patients healthy and safe, through high-quality, properly trained opticians,”
The vote was unanimous, and took place at the 2024 Vision Expo East, in New York City.
