Dermatology Physician Assistant

Dermatologists of Greater Columbus/Southwest OH

Company Dermatologists of Greater Columbus / Dermatologists of Southwest Ohio
Position Dermatology Physician Assistant
Job Description Ohio Dermatology Physician Assistant Training Program

This is the first comprehensive, formal, structured dermatology training program of its kind for physician assistants, and it leads directly to guaranteed employment in a highly successful dermatology practice with a compensation model based on productivity.

Graduates will be exceptionally well trained in all core aspects of general dermatology via a comprehensive curriculum developed by two dermatologists who are exceptionally experienced in training dermatologists. The initial 6 months of training combine extensive, broad based clinical experience supported by rigorous didactics. Upon completion, physician assistants will be fully prepared to “hit the ground running” as a key part of any dermatology practice.

We will be accepting between 2 and 4 physician assistants to start in July 2015 and anticipate to hire 2 to 4 new physician assistants approximately every 6 months going forward.

Program Description

Trainees will be expected to arrive on day one having already read the fundamental curriculum that our faculty have created, which can be completed in a dedicated weekend. During the program trainees will complete daily assigned readings from textbooks provided by the program and will be engaged in regular interactive didactic sessions.

Trainees will see their own panel of patients two days per week, starting their first week, with every patient being precepted with Dr. Zirwas, the co-program director, who has almost 10 years of experience as residency director in dermatology at the Ohio State University. Trainees will see patients and have regular dermatopathology sessions at the microscope with Dr. Conroy, the other co-program director, who has almost 10 years of experience training dermatology residents and PAs. They will also work regularly with other dermatologists in our large practice to gain multiple perspectives in the diagnosis and management of skin disease. Progressive procedural experience will occur with our general dermatologists and Mohs surgeons. Cosmetic exposure will take place with our cosmetic dermatologists.

There will be monthly quizzes to confirm the expected progression through the program and allow any deficiencies to be remediated. At the conclusion of the program, there will be a summative comprehensive exam. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a certificate of graduation along with a description of their competencies.

Training will primarily take place at Dermatologists of Greater Columbus (http://dermgc.com/) locations in Columbus, Ohio, but trainees will also spend a substantial amount of time at Dermatologists of Southwest Ohio (http://www.dermswohio.com/) locations in the Dayton, Ohio area.

Stipend, Salary and Benefits

During the initial 6 months, trainees will receive a $2500 monthly stipend and medical insurance. Text books, a dermatoscope, and funding to attend a Dermatology CME meeting for PAs will be provided by the program.

Post-Training Employment

At the onset of the program, trainees will sign a 3 year contract with our practice. The initial 6 months will be spent completing the training program. For the 2.5 years following completion, graduates will be employed by our practice at a location within 75 miles of Columbus, Dayton, or Cincinnati. Compensation after the initial 6 months will be based on productivity and will be expected to compare favorably with AAPA Salary Data for PAs practicing in Dermatology in Ohio. For trainees who want to move to a different area of the country after completing the initial 6 month training, there is the option to buy out the remaining time on the contract on a pro-rated basis.
